Ionic Current Detection

Description

The Ionic Current Detection module detects an ionic current to monitor a cylinder's combustion, an internal spark ignition's condition. This apparatus uses the spark plug electrode as an ion probe. It applies, as bias power, a very low ignition energy accumulated in the ignition coil. This module's uses are as a sensor to detect engine misfire for each cylinder, as a sensor to detect engine knocking. The module affixes to the existing engine; uses the existing ignition system parts as the detection system parts.

Mitsubishi Electric developed this system so that it uses the existing engine with little or no modification.
