Fortune Global 500 Ranking See our ranking among the "World's Largest Corporations," according to Fortune Magazine. Mitsubishi Electric NORTHVILLE receives the Starfish Award, second year in a row, for "CAPUCHIN SOUP KITCHEN" project. The resourceful members of the Northville P.E.A.C.E. Committee set out to serve the pressing needs of those less fortunate in their Greater Detroit community. They chose as their beneficiary the Capuchin Soup Kitchen - which is a primary food and clothing source for poor people in the area - and as their goal the collecting of as many food and clothing items as possible. The committee managed to mobilize 83% of facility personnel (92 out of 111 employees) in the effort. The employees were organized into four teams, whose collecting progress was tracked as a "bunny race," with colored paper bunnies representing each team moving along the lobby window. The winning team earned a pizza lunch, but everyone won in achieving the collection of nearly 2000 items for donation to the Soup Kitchen. For this achievement - bringing together so many employees in a friendly competition to benefit the needy - the P.E.A.C.E. Committee has won the 2002 Starfish Enterprise Award. The SEA panel of judges cited the project's originality, visibility and level of participation in making their decision. One judge commented: The "team" and "race" concept was a wonderful idea. The location of the contest bunnies behind the front desk kept the project visible at all times. The percentage of participation was outstanding...There was a true feeling of teamwork and increased company morale. A true need was filled, Mitsubishi employees made a difference and, most of all, almost everyone was involved. OTHER WINNING PROJECTS NOMINATED FOR THE 2002 STARFISH ENTERPRISE AWARD Creativity and Commitment Shown in Projects from MEAA Mason and MEAA Maysville MEAA Mason: Organization + Teamwork = Success In an unusual but inspiring choice, the ECHO Committee nominated its philanthropic process for the SEA Award. The committee's organizing ability coupled with the dedication of its members enables the company to carry out a remarkable number of charitable activities smoothly and successfully. As stated in the nomination: "MEAA Mason is involved in so much philanthropic, voluntary and community activity that it seems as if it is a part of the fabric of day-to-day life at MEAA...While any of these activities would be worthy of an SEA nomination, the sum total of activity, and the organization that makes it possible, is particularly worthy." MEAA Maysville: 2nd Annual Golf Tournament The MASH Committee wanted to renovate the playground at a local school so that children with disabilities could use it. The Committee organized its second golf tournament to raise funds for the project. Through the Committee's hard work and the volunteer assistance of other employees, they were able to exceed their goal of raising $15,000 with a grand total of more than $20,000. The city of Maysville then contributed $100,000 toward expanding the playground - the local schoolchildren can't wait until next fall when it will be ready, for ALL kids to use.
