About Us

Mitsubishi Electric Automotive America, Inc. (MEAA) takes an active part in making our communities great places to live and work. We support civic charitable projects and organizations financially, and we also recognize the benefits of personal involvement. MEAA encourages and supports employees and family members to contribute their time and talents to activities sponsored by local philanthropies and the Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation.

The Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation (MEAF)

MEAF is dedicated to helping young people with disabilities maximize their potential and full participation in society, often through the use of technology. The foundation has contributed nearly $3 million and countless hours to programs that advance these goals throughout the U.S.

Protecting the Environment

In order to provide a clean water stream, MEAA in Mason, Ohio, installed a Waste Water Treatment Facility. Capable of treating 3,000 gallons per batch, the project was recognized as a success when even the initial batch was in compliance with local regulations. Over 2,500,000 gallons of water have been processed since its installation in 1994. As an ISO 14001 registered-facility, MEAA- Mason supports a cleaner environment in many ways.

The Starfish Award: Bringing Books to Troubled Children

MEAA-Plymouth-supported philanthropic foundation, P.E.A.C.E., won the Starfish award for its Hawthorn Center library project. When MEAA employees in Plymouth, Mich., learned that the library at a local children’s psychiatric facility, Hawthorn Center, was not available for use by its residents, they decided to act. Hawthorn Center's 118 residents, varying in age from 5 to 18 years, had already faced any number of challenges in their young lives. Until our involvement, the children did not have access to their library. MEAA volunteers worked for over eight months preparing the library for an opening day by sorting, cataloging, and shelving 6,000 books. It was a big job, but the results made it worthwhile for all involved.

Our project was to organize, catalog, and shelve 6,000 books, giving the children access to the library and its resources. Hawthorn Center is the only remaining state-owned children's psychiatric hospital in Michigan. The 118 residents from 5 to 18 years old have serious disabilities and have spent time at other institutions before being placed at Hawthorn. They did not have access to the center's library. This project became a labor of love; we spent Saturdays and had after-hours work parties at Hawthorn. This lasted for over eight months, involving families, spouses, and friends from four years old to over 60. The teamwork, determination, and ingenuity of the volunteers accomplished what at times appeared to be an insurmountable task.

Time is a precious commodity. Once it is gone, it is gone forever. MEAA encourages its people to spend time helping others less fortunate.
